CAPS Aligned First Additional Language Vocabulary in a Playful Game

isiZulu Language Resources: There is an urgent need for good resources for teaching isiZulu and English. Too many children don't build a solid foundation in the core vocabulary. This is where The Sho't Left Board Game is a valuable addition to the classroom. The First Additional Language is introduced in the Foundation Phase in a cyclical annual rhythm where the existing vocabulary is built on year-to-year.

Use in the classroom: The game takes around 10 minutes to set up and 30-45 minutes to play. It can be shortened to fit into a shorter period. The game can be used in flexible ways to introduce, reinforce or test key vocabulary. We have a supportive team who can train you in how to use the game (all though it is quite easy :-). We think once you see students and learners with the game that you will also adapt the game to your own context.

Core Vocabulary: The Sho't Left Board Game is ideal for introducing and reinforcing the core vocabulary. There are over 130 essential words/short phrases and sentences to learn. The words and sentences in the game have been carefully selected to align with the isiZulu First Additional Language vocabulary at South African primary school level. The game can also be used to teach English to isiZulu speaking students.

Tried and Tested: The game was created in consultation with experienced language educators and has been tried and tested. Regardless, we would love to come and demo the game at your school and make changes based on your feedback. We also plan on printing expansion sets and alternative word lists in multiple African languages.

Difficulty Level: The game requires students to be able to read. It is best suited for Grade 3-7 students but can also work for lower grades with adaptations. Its three levels of difficulty in the word lists accommodates experienced students as well as new students that may need support. There are also many different ways of playing to ensure students get the most out of the experience.

Contact us and we can put together a demo for your school to show you how the game can add value to the curriculum.
